Location:
The Shaama region is approximately 211 km from Kathgodam (railhead) and 50 kms ahead of Bageshwar town. The Gyan Dhura village is an easy 2.5 kms short hike from the road head and is located on top of the ridge above the Ramganga River. Surrounded by the biggest peaks, our base camp is perched on a mountain top in the village and offers riveting 360 degree views of the Ram Ganga river valley including close up views of – Nanda Devi (7848 m), Nanda Kot (6861m), Trishul (7120 m).Here you are in the heart of the Central Himalayan wilderness. The village here is primarily agriculture based and one can feast on fresh organically grown high altitude vegetables particularly in the Autumn / Winter season.

- Savour delicious Kumaoni food in village homes.
- Local crafts like mat weaving using the ringal creepers.
- Deep relaxation with amazing views on all sides and endless cups of tea!

Accommodation:
At Shaama:
Stone cottages with ground bedding/ cots, mats and sleeping bags/ quilts ensure a comfortable
stay in the wilderness. Hygienic toilet tents with w/c and running water flushes are also provided.
Hammocks, lounging chairs, driftwood and campfire stools blending with the natural environment
are interspersed at the campsite. Maintaining the natural jungle environment no electricity is used
at the camp. Kerosene/solar lanterns are used to light the camp adequately during the night.
Food:
The camp kitchen provides wholesome and fresh Indian cuisine, with a special emphasis on local Kumaoni delicacies. Continental food can also be prepared on request Tea/coffee/juices are served at regular intervals. Clean, filtered water is brought to the camp from the mountain spring.

Getting There:
By Train: There is an overnight train from the Old Delhi Railway Station (Ranikhet Express), which leaves Old Delhi at 10:45 pm and arrives Kathgodam at 6:00 am from where Jeeps can be hired to go to the Shaama via Bageshwar, an 8 hour road journey, with breakfast and Lunch enroute. Return is likewise in an overnight train reaching Delhi at 4.30 am.
By Road: Shaama is 211 km from Kathgodam (481 km from Delhi – 16 hrs). From Kathgodam, go towards Almora and onto Bageshwar via Takula. Cross the Bageshwar town and drive 50 kms to Shaama via Kapkot. The Gyan Dhurra village is an easy 2.5 kms short hike from the roadhead, your luggage can be
transported to the ridge top in the rope trolley.

Weather & Clothing
The Shaama Camp is open through the year. During March – July and Sept – Nov the days are bright and sunny while the nights are cold. Winter months from December – February the evenings are cold and the area may experience snowfall. Functional and comfortable clothing with adequate winter wear, a shawl, walking shoes, an umbrella and a torch are essential to maximize your camping experience.
List of things to be carried:
- Basic comfortable clothing like shorts, T-shirts, Track-pants, Sweat-shirts, etc
- Personnel toiletries and towel.
- One warm sweater and a warm (pref. rain proof) jacket or an umbrella.
- Gloves/mufflers/warm cap may be carried for evenings.
- Comfortable walking/trekking shoes and slippers for lounging at camp and near water areas.
- Water bottle.
- Torch with extra pair of batteries (mandatory).
- One writing pad and a pen.
- Caps, binoculars, sunglasses etc. are recommended.
- One small Backpack / daypack to carry stuff while on short walks.
- Books on wildlife, plants and birds are helpful for the nature and wildlife enthusiasts.
- For the train journey carry a blanket (mandatory for Nov. –March). At the camp all
bedding/sleeping bags are provided.
Important Pointers:
- Please carry a bag pack because you have to trek for 2.5kms.avoid trolley bags
- Lanterns are not allowed to be carried inside the cottage for safety reasons.
- Transport can be arranged by Wildrift at actuals. (refer to the tariff list for details)
- Guests are requested to adhere to the meal timings – it helps us create a better holiday
for you. - Keeping in view the delicate eco-system around, playing music systems is not allowed at
the camps. - Aerated drinks are not served in the camp-can be arranged at actuals.
