DAANKHUDI

Location:
The lodge is located in a village called Gali Baseda, approximately 12 kms ahead of the Ranikhet town in the Goluchina region. It is called the ‘Daan-kudhi’ – a local term for the highest dwelling in the valley. A small stream cuts through this wide valley as it makes it way to the Kosi river about 15 kms downstream. The lodge is surrounded in all directions with rolling hills covered with thick oak forests, punctured by small hamlets. Close to the village is the only sun temple in the Indian Himalayas.

• Day hikes to meadows, jungles, the temples and hidden villages.
• Rock-Climbing and Rappelling.
• Mountain biking trails
• Paragliding (from October to March)
• Kite making & flying workshops.
• Tyrolene traverse or flying fox
• Campfire and games.
• Day Picnics.
• Short treks (1 to 3 days) in central Himalayas.

Safety and equipment:

We have qualified and experienced instructors for all the activities and provide complete and up-dated field equipment. We adhere to stringent safety standards and do meticulous planning and execution of all programmes.

Getting There:

By Train: There is an overnight train from the Old Delhi Railway Station (Ranikhet Express), leaving Old Delhi at 10:45 pm and reaching Kathgodam at 6:15 am from where Jeeps can be hired (or arranged by our company) to go to the Daan-kurhi _Ranikhet. Return is likewise in the same overnight train leaving Kathgodam at 8:40 p.m. and reaching Delhi at 4.30 am the next morning.
By Road: Ranikhet is 337 kms from Delhi – 9 hrs (80 km from Kathgodam).

DELHI – GHAZIABAD – HAPUR – GAJRAULA – MORADABAD – BAZPUR – RAMNAGAR (CORBETT) – RANIKHET – GOLUCHINA (Camp).
Alternatively: MORADABAD – KATHGODAM – BHOWALI – KHAIRNA – RANIKHET – GOLUCHINA
(Camp).

Board and Lodging:
Full board and lodging are provided at the lodge, which has six furnished and spacious rooms, western toilets, and bathrooms with running water. Hammocks, lounging chairs, driftwood and campfire stools in the stone courtyard. As an exception to the rule, the lodge has been provided with power supply ‘Electricity’ but owing to irregular power supply, Kerosene/solar lanterns as used as power back during the night. Modern and hygienic kitchen facilities are also provided. Apart from sumptuous and wholesome Indian and Continental treats you get a taste of the exotic local cuisine that is becoming so rare in the Kumaon hills.

Weather conditions:
Grade A Nov to March Fairly Cold especially early mornings and nights
Grade B April, Aug to Oct Pleasantly cold; comfortable during day
Grade C May, June, July Cool mornings and evenings; pleasant sunny days.

The above details are provided to give a general idea about the weather conditions. In case of non- seasonal rain, however, it can become quite cold even in Grade B and C.

If you are travelling by train (non AC):
During Grade A and B seasons carry a warm blanket/quilt/cover for the train journey.
During Grade C seasons just a light cover is enough. An effective mosquito repellent cream is highly recommended for the train journey during this period.

Clothing guidelines:
Grade A – B: Heavy woollens for mornings, evenings and nights. Light woolens for day.
Grade C: Light woollens for mornings & evenings. Comfortable sportswear for day.

Environment:
Camps are situated in untouched and picturesque surroundings with an abundance of plant and
wildlife. Hence we seek your help at maintaining the beauty and ecological balance of the place and
therefore keep the following in mind before leaving.
• Carry minimum or no non-degradable material (plastic bags) to be discarded at the campsites. If the
same is carried kindly bring them back with you.
• Music systems are not allowed at the campsites. Walkmans are welcome.
• The local hill people are simple and sensitive to tourist activities. We request you to treat them with
respect and without any discrimination.
